This week, I've been looking at what impact social media and social networks will have on leadership in the future. I've been working with the Leadership Trust to see where and how their Trust can adopt social principles and behaviours in the delivery of thought leadership and training courses for their global audience.

Whilst the basis for great leadership has remained unchanged in the last 2,000 years, the way it's shared and experienced clearly has evolved. Technology often removes the need to come together, whilst at the same time, makes it ever easier to connect with people. Ultimately, does social media help us to know each other better, or does it get in the way?

Much is made of our knowledge based economy in the UK, yet few organisations have begun to look at how social media is changing the nature of people management and organisational leadership. It's very rewarding to work with people at the Leadership Trust who are championing new thinking in this area and leading by example.

Wouldn't it be great if more employers saw social platforms like Facebook and Twitter not as a risk to productivity or security, but as a way to engage with their people and create value for their organisation, business or enterprise?
